Project: TV Mast
Client:- Balfour Beatty (Utility Solutions)
Project Specification: Installation of a helical piled foundation to carry a 250m TV mast and 36 raked anchor piles for the mast ties. Project Duration: Work commenced on 20th June and was completed by 11th July 2008.
Design & Build: The helical pile design was supplied by trusted partner Screwfast Foundations. In total 36 anchor piles were installed in pairs, in 3m sections, and raked in two directions - 40 degrees towards the mast and 15 degrees inclined to its pair.
Tolerance was critical for the connection of the mast tie bracket and cable. The foundation for the mast consisted of 8 helical piles, with a series of beams attached to carry the mast.
Why Terrawise?
A big deciding factor for the client was that no spoil was generated during the installation. In addition the mast could be erected immediately following the pile installation. The use of helical piles resulted in all work being completed in 9 days with an installation team of 4 men.
