Micro Piled Foundations
If the ground is not suitable for helical piles due to layers of rock, then micropiles are a possible solution.
Micropiles or rock anchors, like helical piles, have many benefits including:
- They work extremely well both in tension and compression
- The speed of installation
- The fact that no spoil is generated
- They can be installed in confined spaces
Terrawise preferred micropiles are the
Ischebeck Titan system, installed using our own TEI 550 Piling rigs, which are excavator mounted.
What is a MicroPile Foundation?
In brief the micropile is made up of a lead section, which has a sacrificial drill head coupled to extension sections as it is drilled into the ground. Depending on ground conditions the pile can be grouted as it is drilled or flushed with air and grouted once at depth. There are advantages to both methods and both generally eliminate the need for a casing. Once the pile is at depth it can be cut to the required level.
There are many different rigs that can be used dependent on site conditions. Like screw piles, the micro piles can be incorporated into a concrete pile-cap or utilising a connection detail, bolted to a steel grillage.
